My first post in years… wow. I’ll start off with the Reading Rush 2020 Challenge that I participated in last month and end with the books I read in July.
Before I updated my book blog, I’ve been running my book Instagram page at http://www.instagram.com/my_novel_garden. I came across the Reading Rush’s page right as the two hosts were getting participants prepared for their 2020 challenge. What better way to get out of my reading and blogging schlump than to participate in on a challenge?! It was really fun! Although I didn’t finish all of the challenges in one week, it was still fun to just join in and see what other book bloggers were reading. Also, some of these book bloggers post gorgeous photos! I‘d love to post aesthetically pleasing “bookstagram” photos but right now I’m just aiming to post and blog on a regular basis. 😅 The following are the challenges that I completed:
• Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve seen: I read Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman. I wanted to read this books for years! I loved the movie and when I found out it was based on a book, I was eager to read it. Well, it took over a decade for me to finally read it but I’m glad I did. This novella was a refreshing mix of “light, summery, poolside read” and “weighty, coming of age lesson.”
• Read the first book you touch and Read a book outside of your house. I read Little Oklahoma by Sleeping Bear Press. I’m at home with bébé 90% of the time, and the availability to quietly sit and read is rare, so I incorporated a picture book in the mix. Before the challenge began, I laid out a few picture books and had my husband shuffle them around. Then, I closed my eyes and touched one. Voíla! Little Oklahoma won. Bébé and I went to a nearby park and read it on the first day of the challenge.
• Read a book that matches the color of your birthstone(s). I started this challenge but didn’t complete it by the end of Reading Rush. I chose A Court Of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. My birthday month is June and June has 3 birthstones… I thought it would be fun to pick a book that closely matched all 3 instead of 1. I loved this book and I love the whole series, but I’ll save those reviews and thoughts for another post!
• I planned on reading The End We Start From by Megan Hunter to fit the last 3 challenges: Read a book that takes you to a different continent, Read a genre that scares you/least read genre, and “Read a book that starts with the word ‘The’. Although I didn’t get to read that book for the Reading Rush, I’m looking forward to when I do pick it up!
Book challenges are a great method of bringing book bloggers together and finding new titles to add to my never ending TBR pile. I needed that and I’m glad I participated.
My July wrap up is as follows:
1. The Walking Dead Vol. 28: A Certain Doom by Robert Kirkman
3. Forest Bathing: The Rejuvenating Practice Of Shinrin Yoku by Hector Garcia Puigcerver
4. Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman
5. Little Oklahoma by Sleeping Bear Press
6. Stop Calling Me Beautiful: Finding Soul-Deep Strength In a Skin-Deep World by Phylicia Masonheimer
7. The Red Scrolls Of Magic by Cassandra Clare
8. A Court Of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
9. I did read a TON of picture books since I am aiming for 1,000 books before kindergarten (1000b4k) with bébé, but I will talk about that list in a different post.
I am finishing up The Flight Girls by Noelle Salazar, so a book review will follow.
That’s all for now! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
